The Heron

"The Heron is a figure of great significance in the culture and religion of Okos, representative of death and rebirth. The Mythos of the deity revolves around its appearance at the moment of death, poised with its wings encircling the body like a cloak, head coiled and pointing towards the mortal waiting for the moment of death.
As the last breath leaves the body, the spear-like beak stabs forward and tears the soul from the body, with the heron taking flight swiftly after. As the deity flies, one of its many feathers begins to form a tapestry of the souls deeds in life.
If the soul is pure the feather is eventually shed and where it lands a new life is born, be it plant, animal, or human. If the soul is corrupted the heron takes the soul back to its roost and its fledglings tear it apart, sundering it forever."
